Lessons from ‘Down and Out’

The recently aired movie ‘Down and Out’ is reminiscent of how the merriest comedies could emanate from the bitterest facts. Let’s review six lessons from the well-structured screenplay for your career in part 3 of the film’s review.

The movie comes in two parts, the first half in which Iraj, the lead character, behaves arrogantly toward others; and the second, when he is humbled. Drawing a parallel with your own life, you might want to consider the following tips to avoid Iraj’s mistake.

In the previous parts, four of the six tips were discussed. Here is the next two.

FIVE

Always learn!

We need to steadily keep learning; hence the trendy ‘learning organization’ motto among world market leaders. A strategy oftentimes used to aim at success, is welcoming innovation and linking new and novel ideas to past experience and learning; that is what Iraj, in the series, failed to do.

Instead of opposing any newcomer and possibly their ideas, you might like to consider the new things you can learn from them and that how we, together and not in opposition, could build an invaluable team and asset, for our organization.

SIX

Managers should praise human resources.

And last but not least, a word to managers. Although it is widely accepted that the decision-makers in any organization are its managers at the top of the hierarchy, but such directors in learning organization and those who are quick learners would not easily lay their manpower and/or knowhow off.

In order to achieve success, we will need knowledgeable soldiers who comprise our know-how when needed while working as soldiers in due time. Therefore, it is suggested that managers do not quickly choose the last option, i.e. firing their human resources. That is just the last resort.

As depicted in the movie ‘Down and Out’, Iraj in collaboration with his esteemed organization failed to address the above six issues. In the upcoming and final part of this series of articles, we will conclude the entire issue. Had you looked at the movie from a business practice perspective?

Stay with this review in the future episode.
